Big Smile

So we finally got a big smile right at the camera - tongue out and everything!

Various Sleeping Positions

McKenna sleeps in the funniest postitions sometimes. I have a ton of pictures of her sleeping but here are a few for you to look at.
McKenna doesn't suck her thumb, she just likes to have her hands by her face.
She is completely out during this nap!

Sometimes when she is waking up she will pull on her hair in the back of her head --- pretty soon she is going to get strong enough to pull it out.

Smiles

McKenna has started to smile. We have tried to get pictures of it, but have been unsuccessful until today. We got a few of her with little smiles...we have yet to capture her huge smile. We think she is kind of cute!

First Church Outing

We went to sacrament today. We kept McKenna up this morning so she would sleep through church and it worked - getting her dressed was kind of funny because she was so out of it! She looked so cute in the brown and leopard print dress that my mom got her.

Four Weeks Old

Man, time has flown...I can't believe I have had McKenna for a whole month! She is getting so big - but is still so tiny. McKenna has started to use her hands more to grasp our fingers - or my shirt! Here she is keeping her hand warm in Jade's shirt!

My Color

Take this test!

You're green, the color of growth and vigor. Good-hearted and giving, you have a knack for finding and bringing out the best in people. Green is the most down-to-earth color in the spectrum — reliable and trustworthy. People know they can count on you to be around in times of need, since your concern for people is genuine and sincere. You take pride in being a good friend. For you, success is measured in terms of personal achievement and growth, not by status or position. Rare as emeralds, greens are wonderful, natural people. It truly is your color!

I actually sound like a nice person in this paragraph. There must have been something wrong with the test! Though, judging by my choice of being a teacher I do have to agree with the statement about success! Thanks Steph, that was a fun test...even if it isn't completely true!

Birthday Surprise!

My mom and dad came into town to surprise me for my birthday! They showed up at our door late on Wednesday night! It was the greatest gift ever. I didn't realize how hard it would be to be away from them - especially now that I have McKenna. They stayed for almost two days and I had a great time - thanks mom and dad!

McKenna and Miley

I am sure some of you are wondering how Miley is doing with the new baby. Well, at first she had to sniff her every ten seconds and I think she thought McKenna would go away after a while. Miley now recognizes that McKenna is here to stay and has taken the protective dog role. Miley rarely barked, but now if there is a noise outside she has to warn us - she barks once and then stands by whoever has McKenna. At night Miley has made it her personal job to make sure we wake up when McKenna is making noise - she paces back and forth from McKenna's crib in our room to Jade's side of the bed until we have picked her up. Miley then stands at the bed until McKenna has stopped crying and is eating - then Miley feels we can handle the situation and goes to bed. Miley is still getting used to the change in attention and attacks any new comer with lots of energy but I think she will be a good dog for McKenna! We were taking pictures of McKenna and she was not very happy - she was screaming. Miley crawled to her and watched her to make sure everything was okay.

McKenna and Maya

Kalle came to visit me yesterday with her cute baby. It is amazing the difference seven weeks makes - Maya was smaller than McKenna when she was born but now looks huge compared to McKenna, I guess they do grow up fast. We could not get McKenna to stay awake for the picture...oh, well.

Two and a Half Weeks

Yesterday I was holding McKenna and I realized that she is getting bigger. I hadn't noticed until then, but she has changed quite a bit. We went to our first doctor's appointment last week and she has gained a pound since leaving the hospital - she was 7 pounds 12 ounces (I think she has grown since then.) The doctor told me I was really lucky because I had such a calm baby - she just stared at him while he checked her (I was sure he was going to pull her legs off when he checked her hips!) Then he left and the nurse came to prick her heel - she was no longer a calm baby. I think that you should be able to hold your baby outward so they see the nurse and not you while they go through that pain. McKenna kept shoving her head back so I could see her scream - it was sad. The two month shots should be fun, my dad will be in town so maybe I'll make him be the bad guy.

No More Undergrad School!

Jade is finished with his Bachelors degree! He started teaching on January 2 at Foothills Elementary in Salem. He works with students in grades kindergaarten through third grade that have learning disabilities. Now he comes home at 4:00pm and McKenna and I get to keep him around the rest of the night - none of this 1:00am work schedule anymore!!!! Now Jade just has to get his Masters degree! He gets a little break for now. As for me, I am just enjoying the time off and holding McKenna.

One Week and One Day Old

You would think that I had all the time in the world to update my blog, but all I want to do right now is hold McKenna and look at her. I always thought I would be restless just sitting around but I could just sit here with McKenna forever - at least that is how I feel right now. She is so cute and cuddly. When I think about going back to work in six weeks I start to cry - we'll see how that goes later, I might be an emotional basket case! Here are a few pictures of McKenna that we have taken over the last couple days. We are a bit picture crazy with this child but we have to be for my family to see her! The only outfit that fits her is the premie outfit we brought her home from the hospital in - but this red one is cute even if it is too big.
She has to have her hands on her face most of the time - it makes nursing an interesting time!
Ready for bed in her sweet pea gown.
There is a slight hint of a dimple on her right cheek (left in picture). We will have to wait a while to see if she has dimples.
Look at all that hair! Uncle Kyle holding a scowling McKenna!Yes, perfectly spoiled by Grandma is right. She is so cute when she sleeps!Dad, I love you, but where is the food?Either she is pooping or I am holding her funny.I didn't know it was possible to love someone so much after just a few days. She was definetely worth the wait!
