Mt. Rainier

Yesterday we went up Mt. Rainier. Jade had never seen it before so we decided to take the trip while my parents were at work. It was a nice sunny day and the scenery was beautiful. McKenna loved looking at the snow, but was more hesitant about touching it. She could not get enough of the water though. All she wanted to do was watch the waterfalls. I had forgotten how pretty the evergreens are here - I am always surrounded by the barren desert mountains in Utah. It was gorgeous!

McKenna Loves Kitties

My parents have a kitten and McKenna decided that she needed to be her best friend. Ritzy was really good with her but when an escape presented itself she took it! McKenna had a mouth full of fur after this kiss!!!

Spoiled McKenna

We came to visit my parents in Washington and McKenna was super excited! She really is a well traveled little girl - This was her third flight to Washington! My parents were so excited to see her that they had everything ready! She has diapers, wipes, rice cereal, green beans, peas, and toys, lots and lots of toys. She was in heaven playing with all of her new toys, including her own cell phone that talks to her. Her favorite new toy though, is her baby jumper! She has figured out how to jump in it and is working on turning around.
This little girl really has everything she needs at her grandma and grandpa's house. My parents hope to send us home at the end of this trip and keep McKenna! She is adorable, I can see how they would want to keep her around longer.
On another note: The day we left for Washington I took McKenna to the doctor because she had been running a really high fever all Sunday and we thought maybe she had an ear infection. Her ears checked out fine and the doctor said she was probably fine, but because of her high fever he took some other tests. The tests came back as a kidney infection! She is such a good baby - I feel so bad for her. When we get back she has to have some tests done on her to make sure everything is cleared up and that her urinary system is functioning correctly. These tests are more preventative for future infections, but I still feel bad for her. I am so grateful for modern medicine so that she can feel better!

Gross Apple Juice

We found out that McKenna doesn't like apple juice very well. We were giving it to her and she kept making the funniest faces. We were able to catch one on camera! I guess it is too tart or too cold for her!

Bee Sting

Jade has been helping my grandma and grandpa with some odd jobs around the house. The other day he was weed wacking the ivy off of their fence and a bee came out of a post and stung him on his eyelid. So now the poor guy has a swollen eye - he keeps taking Benadryl and it hasn't worked very well.

My Happy Girl

I love being home with McKenna all the time - I feel so lucky to have the summer off to spend with her. It will be sad to go back to work in August but I am having such a great time now ... I am trying to make every moment count!

Sleeping

McKenna was really cute the other day sleeping so I took some pictures. She has started to move positions while she sleeps...it is always funny to see where she has moved to during the night. When she wakes up she will talk to herself until we come get her and usually she has grabbed her sheep and has him under her arm - she loves that little thing!

Independent Eater

Last night McKenna decided that she should feed herself! And after fighting off the grabbing hand multiple times, I gave in. She didn't really eat anything, she just played with the spoon, dumped the cereal, and flung food around the table. At the end she had cereal all over her face and chest. Usually she can't wait for the spoon to get in her mouth. Playing with the spoon must have been so much more amusing last night!

Our Trip to Dugway

On Saturday, Jade and I made the trip out to Dugway to see Kalle, Aaron, and Maya. After the long journey through nothing and the scary front gate we made it into the friendly community of Dugway! Everyone waved to us as we got our visitor's pass.
We had a BBQ at Kalle and Aaron's house before going to the pool to swim. Maya crawled all over the place and we attempted to allow Maya and McKenna to play with each other, but they are very into faces right now. McKenna hooked Maya's nostril and Maya wanted McKenna's hair and eyes! They will be good friends one day after they learn to be gentle. The girls loved the pool - Maya is going to be swimming by herself soon! McKenna was really tired I guess because she cuddled up to me, fussed for about fifteen seconds and fell asleep, right there in the pool!
After swimming we ate Otter Pops. McKenna decided that she was ready for her first popsicle and BIT into the popsicle. At first we were afraid she was going to get a brain freeze, but after a minute of figuring out what happened she went in for the kill! I was no longer sharing an Otter Pop, she thought I needed to get my own! We had so much fun - thanks for inviting us!

Maybe...

I have been putting McKenna on her stomach even more lately to see if she will attempt anything. The other day I put a huge toy display in front of her. She was very excited and I thought maybe she would try to inch forward. Well, my baby tried and tried - she moved her arms, she occasionally brought a knee up...but no forward motion!

After about ten minutes she decided she would never get to the toys and started to cry. Aren't kids cute?

Mom, I Really Don't Want to Crawl

McKenna has never liked her tummy time, but she will withstand it if she gets to be on her little play gym we got her. Lately we have been putting her on her stomach for longer periods of time, attempting to get her to crawl. She is used to us picking her up and getting her to where she needs to be. Yesterday I decided to take pictures of the struggle I have with her every day over tummy time. One day I will be able to show these to her when she has a child that thinks they need to be held twenty four hours a day! After screaming at me for a while she decided to get sympathy from the princess that hangs off the gym. After she realized I wasn't going to pick her up she laid her head down and talked to me. One of these days she is going to crawl and I am going to wish she was still giving me this sad face!

McKenna's Boyfriend

Stephanie, Taylor, and Warren stopped by on their way back to Denver this past Monday to see us! We were so excited to see them and let McKenna meet her future husband! Warren got a treat every time he gave McKenna a kiss - McKenna will kiss just about anyone at this point. It was fun to see them! Stephanie has a great camera and McKenna was very cooperative in taking pictures - she loves Steph.

This is How We Make the Bed

McKenna has the need to be by me at all times. So she gets to do all the chores around the house with me...as long as she can see me she usually is okay. When I make the bed in the morning, she gets to sit in the pile of pillows! She thinks it is great.

McKenna loves Miley

McKenna loves Miley, but the feeling is not always returned. Sometimes Miley will want to be around McKenna and other times she wants nothing to do with her - though, no matter what, if a stranger or another dog comes near her Miley gets really nervous. She is McKenna's personal body guard! I think Miley is still a little annoyed that McKenna took some of her attention! My dad and sister came into town this weekend for a day and tried to get Miley to play with McKenna. Here are two cute videos of them playing - or should I say McKenna trying to call Miley and Miley being forced to come see McKenna.

Random Pictures

I am told to put pictures up of McKenna all the time by my mom so she can see McKenna everyday, so I have a lot of random pictures. Here are some cute ones for you mom!

Here she is being independent in the rocking chair. She wanted to sit in it all by herself and have Staci rock her.
I love this dress! She was the cutest person at church yesterday!

Pony Tail

I put McKenna's hair in a pony tail the other day to see how it would look ... the poor thing is so bald in the front of her head! She was actually a pretty good sport about it - not much fussing. I put her down to take a picture and she started to get really mad, but as soon as the camera was out she started to smile. I think we might be raising a vain child!

Rice Cereal

The doctor told me to start feeding McKenna real food, starting with cereal. I was certain he was going to tell me to stop feeding her - have you seen the thighs on this girl? So we went to the grocery store last night and bought some rice cereal. The box said that for the first feeding a baby will eat about one tablespoon, well...my child downed two tablespoons and could have still eaten more - she still nursed! We only have to work up to three tablespoons twice a day to introduce the green veggies. We are going to be feeding her veggies next week if this keeps up! She did really well with keeping the food in her mouth - I didn't even need a bib and her tray stayed spotless! Way to go McKenna!

Ouch!

McKenna has really red marks on her legs where her six month shots were given. She has never had this last more than a few hours...poor thing. She is such a little trooper - I am pretty sure I would scream louder than she did if they punched three shots into my legs at once!

Six Month Appointment

I took McKenna to the doctor today for her six month check up and shots. She ended up being in the 75% for all of her measurements. Her height is 25 3/4 inches and she weighs 16.9 pounds - - no wonder I am getting pretty good arm muscles!!! She passed all the tests they put her through, meaning she looked at the pretty toys when the doctor shook them. Then we had the shots. Two nurses came in and tag teamed her for her three shots. McKenna screamed, of course, but she stopped as soon as I picked her up. She giggled on the walk home and then told the whole horrific story to her toy on her swing. After her conversation she fell asleep - doctor's visits can be so much work, too many people to giggle at. (By the way, my daughter feels that it is her sworn duty to make everyone she sees tell her how pretty she is. She will coe at every stranger until they say something to her and then she moves on to the next person - Jade and I are really in for a treat when she gets to be dating age!)

Our First Rose

Jade and I planted a row of rose bushes on the walkway to our door. We killed the strawberry plants we planted already, but theroses are doing fantastic! We have several roses starting to bud, but yesterday one actually bloomed! I think they are going to be so pretty when they all decide to bloom. McKenna likes to look at them, but we have to watch her so she doesn't cut herself on a thorn!
